Case study 4: Mature Beech tree felling, Beith

Ayrshire Tree Surgeons were contacted by the residents association of a private housing estate in Beith. Following the recommendations of a tree survey conducted by the local authority this beech tree was condemned due to the extent of root rot at the base caused by the presence of the fungus Kretzschmaria deusta. With potential targets surrounding the tree including houses and a busy road careful planning was required for its safe removal.

It was decided that the safest and most efficient way to remove the tree was through a controlled fell from the base. The video shows the tree being felled and processed. Traffic was stopped whilst the tree was being felled. The tree was cleared from site and replanting done over the course of one day.
